Justine Cassell has received an honorary doctor of science from the University of Edinburgh for decades of cutting-edge research on the verbal and nonverbal aspects of human conversation, and on dialogue systems that can also participate in natural conversation with people using these same behaviors. She has notably applied her research to improving educational opportunities for young people, among other applications.
